While out in San Mateo, CA, we were able to dine at one of my favorite restaurants. Kingfish has been a spot that I’ve always enjoyed going to ever since I ate there. From its New Orleans styled décor to the flavorful seafood, its one place that I think about whenever I’m in the area. It was time to get our eat on once again.
Stepping inside Kingfish, you’ll notice the oyster bar and the full bar. Maybe you’re looking for a drink and a sampling of oysters. This is a great spot to do so. If a full dinner or lunch is on your mind, you’ll be seated on the bottom floor or be led upstairs. I usually get seated upstairs and this time was no exception.
Oysters were definitely on my mind that night. So, an order of Miyagi oysters was promptly made. I threw on the usual Tabasco and lemon on those babies. Next, we ordered the Ahi Tuna Tare Tare. This was a great addition to the oysters. The Tuna Tare Tare was complimented with taro chips and the combination was great. You just have to try it out yourself.
Finally, we ate food that was actually cooked. With all of the raw seafood we ate, it was about time. I ordered the Bacon Crusted Sea Scallops which came with a very delicious carrot sauce. The scallops were platted on top of fluffy mashed potatoes and then garnished with plenty of deep fried green onions. Rose, wanted to order the Halibut. It was roasted and platted on top of mashed potatoes too. It came with a butter sauce and garnished with some asparagus. Funny thing is we ended up swapping dishes because we ended up wanting each other’s order instead.
It’s a spot for dates because…
King Fish offers the feel of New Orleans with its atmosphere. Kingfish also has live music on certain weekend nights. You might just end up staying at this spot after dinner to enjoy that too.

hey man that halibut looks good so when i come down we better go there.
Yeah, it was really flavorful. Soon I’m going to post up some stuff from Kioku. I know you love the Lion King roll from there. Maybe when you and your Mom head up this weekend, we can eat there again.
